Red-green color blindness is the most common; it’s the loss or limited function of the red cone (protan) or green cone (deutran) photopigments.
Rarer than red-green color blindness is blue-yellow color blindness which is when the blue-cone (tritan) photopigments are missing or have limited function.
Finally, complete color blindness (monochromacy) is straightforward; anybody with that color vision deficiency cannot experience any color at all. That can also affect the clearness of these individuals’ vision.
Typically, eye care professionals use a color blindness test like The Ishihara Color Test or the Cambridge Color Test to see whether somebody has color vision deficiency.
